SEPANG: Bukit Jalil Sports School principal Datuk Marina Chin believes that Pandelela Rinong’s performance in the London Olympics has set a fine example for her students to follow and will be an inspiration for many aspiring divers.
The 19-year-old Pandelela won a bronze in the women’s 10m platform diving event after overcoming a poor start and in the process delivered Malaysia’s first Olympic medal not from badminton.
She is also the first Malaysian female medallist but the records doesn’t stop there as the Sarawakian lass is also the first former BJSS student to win a medal in the Olympics.
And Marina who herself was a former National Sportswoman of the Year in 1976 and 1977, winning seven gold medals from athletics in the SEA Games in the 70s, heaped the praises on Pandelela.
“She has done very well at the highest stage and we at BJSS are very proud of her indeed,” said Marina.
“Pandelela has set a very good example and she is a very good role model for my students and will inspire them to do better as well.”
Marina was present at KLIA yesterday together with a group of BJSS students to give Pandelela a heroine’s welcome that she rightfully deserves.
