PUTRAJAYA, March 5 (Bernama) -- Fifteen national athletes including shooter, Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi, who is three months pregnant, have booked a place on merit to the 2012 London Olympic Games, to be held from July 27 to Aug 12.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the number was expected to increase up to 50 persons because many more athletes would qualify for the Games in their respective events.
"Among athletes expected to qualify to London are eight shuttlers and five cyclists from the road race and track events.
"We also hope the men's hockey team which comprises 16 players who will be playing in the qualifying in Dublin, Ireland next week, also book a ticket to the Olympics," he told reporters here.
Those who have booked a place to London are four archers namely Cheng Chu Sian, Khairul Anuwar Mohamad, Haziq Kamaruddin and Nurul Syafiqah Hashim and eight divers - Bryan Nickson Lomas, Pandelela Rinong, Yeoh Ken Nee, Cheong Jun Hoong, Huang Qiang, Traisy Vivien Tukiet, Wendy Ng Yan Yee and Leong Mun Yee.
