OLYMPIC hopeful Mohd Farkhan Mohd Haron yet again highlighted the lack of quality opponents in the country when he easily won the Kuala Lumpur Mayor's Cup 75kg title with a comprehensive 33-11 win over Selangor's Arif Mohd Noh at the Titiwangsa Stadium on Sunday.
Mohd Farkhan, who together with Khir Akyazlan Azmi, is attempting to become the first Malaysian boxer to qualify for the Olympics on merit by doing so at the Asian Qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan in early April, said despite the one-sided win there was still work to be done if he is to achieve his goal."I feel I am not really at 100 per cent as I felt a little slow in moving and reacting. I also at times lost concentration. These are things I need to work on," added Farkhan, who took silver in the same weight category at the recent Indonesia Sea Games.
Fellow national teammate Mohd Fairuz Azwan, who represented Selangor at the tournament, bagged the gold medal in the men's 81kg category with a 17-3 win over Kelantan's Arason Ramalingam.
Negri Sembilan emerged overall champions with a total haul of three gold and one silver while Selangor came second with two gold, one silver and three bronze. Third were Penang with two gold and two bronze. By Fadhli Ishak
