KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian artists and public in general took part in a marathon painting session on an 888-feet (271 meters) banner here on Saturday, to wish the organization of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games success.
The banner under the theme of "Wishing a successful Beijing 2008 Olympic Games" collected and imprinted well wisher from over 300 Malaysian artists, calligraphers, art lovers and well-wishers all over Malaysia, said Tai Hsiao Hua, president of the Malaysian Chinese Cultural Society.
The banner will be sent to Beijing on June 20, 2008 and will be displayed at the Beijing venue where the 29th Olympic Games will be opened on Aug. 8, 2008, Tai said.
"An auspicious number has been well chosen to convey the long and lasting friendship between the peoples of Malaysia and China, as well as we take this opportunity to wish them well the victims of the recent cyclone in Myanmar and Sichuan quake in China," Tai added.
During the artwork painting, the participants and visitors can have their pictures taken with the official torch on loan from the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) at a non-obligatory donation fee which will be channeled for the China Sichuan Earthquake Fund.
According to the OCM, 33 Malaysian athletes have qualified for the Beijing Olympic Games.
