LONDON, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- When she was spotted by her first coach,
10-year-old Pandelela Rinong anak Pamg was scared stiff when told to
take the dive from the 10m platform.
However, coach Wang Jin Lin gave her the courage and inspiration to ignore the heights and enjoy herself playing with water.
"I never dreamt that I would stand at the Olympic podium. Diving is a sport I love and train for," she told reporters here.
The 19-year-old from Bau, Sarawak said Wang currently coached the Australian diving team, including the silver medallist in yesterday Women's 10m Platform final, Brittany Broben.
"But coach Wang was not here. I just want to say 'thank you' for bringing the best in me in diving," said Pandelela.
In the women's 10m platform final yesterday, she grabbed the bronze with 359.20 points behind Broben (366.50) and gold medallist Chen Ruolin from China (422.30).
She said, during her training stint in China, a few months before the 2012 Olympics, she spent eight hours a day, training with the rest of the diving squad.
"It's really fruitfull training in China. If I want to better the colour of my medal, I choose China. China has got better infrastructure and what is important, a coach there only trains two or three divers. So, they can concentrate on their charges," she noted.
On her future assignments, Pandelela said she just wanted to be back with her family in Sarawak.
"I may let the young divers compete in the 2013 Myanmar SEA Games and concentrate on future world championships or world cups and get ready for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea," she added.
