BEIJING, July 17 (Bernama) - China has removed its Serb soccer coach and replaced him with a local with three weeks left to the Olympic Games.
Yin Tiesheng, coach of Chinese league team, Qingdao, and one-time national youth coach takes over from Ratomir Dujkovic who had failed to advance the team beyond the first round of the 2010 World Cup qualifier.
"Dujkovic's work has been changed. Now he is no longer directly in charge of the training and matches. That responsibility goes to Yin Tiesheng," Olympics soccer media officer Li Xuan was quoted as saying Thursday.
The Serb, a former Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper who took Ghanas to the second round of the 2006 World Cup, was made China's senior national coach in January.
State radio reported that the Chinese national association negotiated with Dujkovic until 3am Thursday.
The Olympics hosts are in the same group as Brazil, New Zealand and Belgium in the 16-team tournament.
