Azizul To Carry Jalur Gemilang At Beijing Olympics Opening

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- National cyclists Azizul Hasni Awang has been given the honour to carry the Jalur Gemilang at the opening of the Beijing Olympics next month.

Azizul Hasni, who is among the athletes with the potential to contribute a medal to the country, will be heading the Malaysian contingent in the parade.

The Malaysian contingent will comprise of 33 athletes and 29 officers, the biggest contingent in the country's participation in the Olympics.

"Members of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM) have unanimously agreed to choose Azizul Hasni as the flag bearer," MOM president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar told reporters.

Terengganu-born Azizul Hasni, 20, will be competing in three events in Beijing namely 200 metres sprint individual, keirin (with Josiah Ng), and team (with Josiah and Mohd Rizal Tisin).
