Sports Attire: Go for the hip and cool look

By : DR IQBAL HAFIDZ, Kuala Lumpur
CONGRATULATIONS to our athletes for coming second, in terms of gold medals won, at the recent Korat Sea Games.
Other than the sepak tak-raw and football teams, most of our athletes did us proud.

Next year is the year of the Olympics and I have only one wish for our athletes -- that their attire is given a new design. Our present orange with tiger stripes is totally inappropriate and uncool. I know its purpose is to invoke the fighting spirit of the Malayan tiger in our athletes and strike fear in our opponents but I'm sure everyone is having a good laugh.

You don't see the English being dressed up like lions or the Chinese like panda bears!

So, to those responsible for designing the Malaysian outfit, please use our traditional royal yellow or the blue and red colours of our flag.
We do have a chance of winning medals at the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympics and I would hate to see our athletes on the podium looking like Tony, the Tiger of Kellogg's Frosties.
