KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttlers Lee Chong Wei and Wong Mew Choo will receive notes of encouragement in the run-up to their challenge in the Olympics next month.
From today, every singles player in the national and back-up squads will take turns to encourage the duo by writing something nice about them.
This is one of the activities planned by mental trainer Frederick Tan to help Chong Wei and Mew Choo cope with the mounting pressure as the Beijing Games draw near.
Frederick said that this exercise would show that they whole team were behind Chong Wei and Mew Choo in their bid to win honours for the country in the Olympics.
“Roslin (Hashim) will be the first. I have given him a piece of paper and he has to write something to encourage these Olympic-bound players,” he said.
“It will be good for Chong Wei and Mew Choo to hear positive messages every day. They will know that they are not alone in their mission to win at the Olympics. It is a good activity to show that everyone cares and support these players.”
Frederick, who has been working with Chong Wei since January, has also lined up several other activities and sessions to help the players stay focused.
“Mental preparation is really important – especially as the players prepare for a big event like the Olympics. My job is just to help them feel more relaxed in their approach,” he said.
